How to Plan a Dream Elopement at Freycinet National Park | Tasmania Elopement Guide

Some love stories are written across landscapes — and Freycinet National Park on Tasmania’s east coast is one of the most breathtaking backdrops you could choose for an elopement. With its pink granite peaks, sweeping beaches, and sense of total seclusion, it’s the perfect place to escape the noise and focus on what matters most: your connection.

As a wedding filmmaker based in Victoria, I’ve had the honour of capturing love stories all across Australia, but Dyan and Carlie’s Freycinet elopement will always stand out — not only for the beauty of the location but for the way the entire day unfolded with intention and emotion.

Why Choose Freycinet National Park for Your Elopement?

Freycinet offers that rare combination of wild natural beauty, luxury accommodation, and total privacy. It’s home to iconic Wineglass Bay, Schouten Island, and the award-winning Freycinet Lodge — all of which make stunning elopement locations. Whether you’re planning a simple ceremony on a secluded beach or a multi-day adventure with close family, this part of Tasmania offers endless possibilities.

Dyan & Carlie’s Freycinet Elopement — A Real Story

Dyan and Carlie began their day at the Coastal Pavilions of Freycinet Lodge, nestled within the national park. With the forest surrounding them and the ocean just beyond, it was the perfect space to get ready in peaceful seclusion.

Their ceremony took place barefoot on a pristine beach, with only their closest family as witnesses. With the pink granite mountains as a backdrop and the sea lapping at the shore, it was a moment of complete presence — and one of the most moving ceremonies I’ve had the privilege to film.

Then came the adventure: a seaplane flight across the Tasman Sea with Above & Beyond to Schouten Island, a rugged and remote place that felt like their own private world. As the sun set, we wandered the island’s rocky coastline, capturing footage in the golden light, before returning by sea taxi under the stars.

This elopement wasn’t about extravagance — it was about meaning. And when you choose a place like Freycinet, the landscape does the storytelling for you.

How to Plan Your Own Freycinet Elopement

1. Choose Your Base
Most couples stay at Freycinet Lodge, which offers eco-luxury and direct access to beaches and bushland.

2. Pick Your Ceremony Location
Popular spots include Honeymoon Bay, Wineglass Bay lookout, and secluded beach coves like the one Dyan and Carlie chose.

3. Consider Transport Options
Want to add adventure? A seaplane flight or sea taxi to Schouten Island creates an unforgettable elopement experience.

4. Work With Local Vendors
Here are the incredible creatives who helped bring Dyan & Carlie’s day to life:

  • Photographer: Jon Gazzignato

  • Celebrant: Wendy Francis

5. Film Your Story
Your elopement deserves to be remembered. As a filmmaker, I don’t just capture the events — I tell your story, weaving in spoken word, natural sound, and real emotion. View some of my elopement films here.

Tips for Eloping in Tasmania

  • Check if your ceremony location requires a permit (especially within national parks)

  • Autumn and spring offer ideal weather and softer light

  • Fly into Hobart or Launceston, then drive to Coles Bay (Freycinet’s main hub)

  • Don’t forget to leave time for exploring: Wineglass Bay hike, oyster shacks, and boat tours are all nearby
